Laura Arnold – UT ArlingtonLaura will be graduating in December with a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Spanish from the University of Texas at Arlington. Originally from New Zealand, Laura grew up in California, where she graduated as salutatorian from high school, and decided to move to Texas to study politics. Adapting quickly to the southern lifestyle, Laura took up many little projects while living in Dallas, including volunteering at an unwed mothers home, teaching catechism to kindergarteners, working on a state congressional campaign and interning at the World Affairs Council. Her favorite areas for study include social policy, education and political philosophy. Laura spent the summer working in D.C. and will be interning at the Heritage Foundation in the fall. |

Jose Balmori – UT Pan AmericanJose, a native of the south of Mexico, is a senior at the University of Texas – Pan American where he is double majoring in Economics and Mathematics with a minor in Political Science. He was an active member of four campus organizations, including Student Government Association, National Hispanic Professional Organization, SIFE, and the Leadership Academy. In addition, Jose is a member of the Honors Program and the Student Leadership Program. Jose has worked at the Institute for Population Health Policy under the supervision of Dr. Jose Pagan, one of the leading health economists in Texas, for the past two years. After graduating in December, Jose plans to study abroad in Brazil and to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics. While in DC, he will intern at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities. |

Anneliese Bustillo – UT Austin Anneliese is a junior at the University of Texas at Austin double majoring in History and Government. She is a member of the History, Political Science, and Education Honors Societies. While attending UT, she has developed interests including Constitutional Law, Education, and Community Service. She enjoys volunteering at the Texas State History Museum, the Ann Richards School, and the Capital Area Food Bank. Last year, Anneliese was named a Rapoport Service Scholar, and she was awarded the Silver Presidential Volunteer Service Award. In her spare time, Anneliese enjoys collecting vinyl records, reading, doing the New York Times crossword puzzle and collecting photos of unusual signs. She is a tenth generation Texan, Daughter of the Republic of Texas, and proud daughter of two Texas Exes. |

Bryan Clegg – UT AustinBryan, a native of the great state of Ohio, is a senior at the University of Texas at Austin where he is majoring in Government with a minor in Business Administration. He is an active member of the Texas Iron Spikes, the official spirit organization for the baseball team at UT Austin, and recently served as their Service Chair. In addition, he has worked at the University of Texas System Governmental Relations Department and Gumbo’s Louisiana Style Restaurant for the past two years. Past internships include the office of Governor Rick Perry and Congressman Mike Turner. While in Washington, D.C., Bryan will be interning at The Heritage Foundation, a conservative policy research institute, in the Devos Center for Religion and Civil Society |

Sarah Golkar – UT Austin Sarah is pursuing degrees Middle Eastern Studies and Government at the University of Texas at Austin. While at UT she has been an opinion columnist for The Daily Texan Newspaper; her writing has been published in The Daily Texan's Year in Review and The Rocky Mountain Collegian. She has facilitated an "English Corner" to help International students practice conversational English skills, and has interned for Texas State Representative Dawnna Dukes. Sarah is involved in UT's Inter-Cooperative Council, which provides affordable housing to students. She has taken courses on terrorism, counter-terrorism and Muslim migration to the European Union, while studying abroad in Denmark and Turkey. Upon graduation, Sarah hopes to pursue a career in International Relations. This fall she will be working for the Middle East Institute. |

Clarissa Jaime – UT El Paso Clarissa Jaime will graduate in December 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in both Communication Studies and Political Science. She is an active member of five campus organizations, including Campus Activities Board, Environmental Advocates, National Communication Association, and Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership and Honors Organization. She is also currently the President of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists UTEP student chapter. In her spare time she volunteers for non-profit organizations, travels, and attends leadership conferences. She plans on pursuing a graduate degree in communications, and eventually wants to work in the television industry. While in DC, she will intern at Amnesty International USA. |

Corey Kellam – UT TylerCorey is a senior Economics Major at the University of Texas at Tyler. He runs Cross Country and Track and served as Team Captain last year. Corey is an Academic All-American; showing success both athletically and academically. He also enjoys involvement with the Colleges Against Cancer group on campus. He served as Sponsorship Chair and as a Team Captain for the annual Relay For Life event held on campus. After graduating in December, Corey plans to attend law school and earn his J.D. Corey will intern for Congressman Louie Gohmert (1st District, Texas) in DC and hopes the experience will prepare him not only for law school but a future involving public service. |

Lauren Lucas – UT AustinLauren is a senior at The University of Texas at Austin where she is pursing degrees in Social Work and Government. She is an active member of Circle K International, a volunteer organization, and served as the 2006-2007 President. As President, Lauren developed numerous service projects and events. In addition, Lauren serves in her church, Hill Country Bible Church UT, and has participated in mission trips to Mexico, the Dominican Republic, and Memphis, Tennessee. Previously, Lauren has interned in the Office of Texas Senator Jane Nelson, Manos de Cristo, and The Salvation Army-Katrina Aid Today. Lauren is interested in social and economic justice, in particular as they relate to education. Upon graduation, Lauren plans to attend law school. |

Caryn Malone – UT San AntonioCaryn is a senior at the University of Texas at San Antonio majoring in Political Science, with a minor in Legal Studies and is a member of the Honors College. She has served as a Resident Assistant in Chaparral Village housing facility for UTSA Housing and Residence Life, and was named Event Programmer of the Year for the Fall 2007- Spring 2008 semesters. Caryn is an alumnus of UTSA’s Institute for Law and Public Affairs Summer Law School Preparation Academy where she obtained a certification in Legal Reasoning. Caryn is also a member of Phi Alpha Delta Pre-Law Fraternity where she elected Fall 2006 Philanthropy Chair. For the summer 2008 semester, Caryn interned in the chambers of the Honorable Judge Royal Ferguson of the United States Federal District Courts. While in Washington D.C., Caryn will be interning for the U.S. Department of Education in the Office of Communications and Outreach. |

Manfred Mecoy – UT DallasManfred Mecoy will graduate in December 2008 with a Bachelor's degree in Political Science. During his time at UT Dallas, Manfred served as a Student Government Senator, where he was elected to the Executive Council, founded and acquired student fee funds for a school spirit organization, helped to create and build up the university's Ultimate Frisbee team, and represented the school as the mascot. He also held several key roles in Sigma Alpha Epsilon, including Recruitment Chair and Rock the Campus for the Cure Chair, a position that offered him the chance to organize a philanthropic concert that raised over $12,000. While in Washington, D.C., Manfred will be interning in the Member Services department of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. |

Katryn Miller – UT Dallas Pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Katryn will be completing her senior year in May, 2009. Throughout her academic career, Katryn has enjoyed participating as a delegate in numerous Model United Nations programs. Katryn is very active in her CRAVE college ministry. Through CRAVE, she has been blessed to serve a variety of people in the Dallas community, from foster children to senior citizens. During election seasons, Katryn seizes the opportunity to volunteer in Dallas and Collin County campaigns. With previous internship experience and interest in nonprofit work, Katryn plans to pursue a career in nonprofit organizations after graduating. Interning in the Heritage Foundation during this fellowship, Katryn hopes to gain a better understanding of nonprofit activity and its impact on public policy. |

Megan Newman – UT DallasMegan is a junior Historical Studies Major at the University of Texas at Dallas. At her university, she is involved in Mock Trial and is a part of the Collegium V Honors Program. Megan also co-founded an organization at the University of Texas at Dallas called Students for Political Education, Action, and Knowledge (SPEAK). Through this organization, she and her peers work to bring the college demographic to an increased and more informed level of political activity and awareness. She also volunteers at a local retirement home and enjoys playing intramural sports and writing poetry. While in Washington DC, Megan will be interning for the Curator’s Office at the Supreme Court. When she completes her bachelor's degree, Megan plans to attend law school. |

Lindsey Palmer – UT TylerLindsey is a senior a University of Texas at Tyler. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a minor in Political Science. She played soccer throughout her collegiate career, earning many athletic and academic honors and is a proud alum of the UT Tyler Women’s soccer team. She has been active in various volunteer opportunities, including reading programs, camps for underprivileged children and Relay for Life. She has worked closely with youth at local community centers and the YMCA. She has been on numerous mission trips around the country where she has collaborated on projects to help the less fortunate. While in D.C. she will be interning at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington in a communications/marketing position. |

Kate Rainey – UT AustinKate Rainey is currently a junior at the University of Texas at Austin where she is double majoring in government and sociology. In Austin, Kate is a member of Gamma Beta Phi and is an active volunteer in the local community. In her spare time, she enjoys doing anything outside and seeing live music. She recently spent a summer abroad in Sydney interning at Amnesty International helping refugees, mainly from Southeast Asia, obtain visas in Australia. Eva Romero – UT AustinEva is a second-year junior at the University of Texas at Austin where she is majoring in journalism with a minor in government. On campus, she is an active member of UT Hispanic Journalists and has written for several UT Austin publications, including The Daily Texan and Adelante Newspaper, where she has covered the 2008 presidential election and immigration reform. In addition, Eva is currently in the preliminary stages of planning a foundation for children who have lost parents to cancer. The foundation, which she is working on with family, will be called “Mother’s Love” on behalf of her late mother. While in DC, Eva will be the only intern at ABC’s Good Morning America |

Gordon Rooney – UT Austin Gordon is a junior at the University of Texas at Austin majoring in government and history. Gordon is involved in numerous activities, both school and community-related. He enjoys gaining hands-on experience outside the classroom and has volunteered on many political campaigns. He worked for the Air Force as a government civilian the past two summers at the Air Force Research Laboratory, near Boston, Massachusetts. An Eagle Scout, Gordon enjoys helping others through community service and recently helped rebuild homes damaged by Hurricane Rita. After his undergraduate studies, Gordon plans to attend law school. The son of an Air Force Major General, who raised him to always serve others before self, Gordon plans to spend his life in public service. While in Washington, Gordon will intern with the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary. |

Kacy Shindler – UT AustinKacy is a senior at the University of Texas Austin where she is double majoring in Political Communication and Economics with a minor in Government. She is also involved in the Bridging Disciplines Program with a concentration in Politics, Law and Social Justice. On campus, Kacy is involved in the Campus Environmental Center where she helped coordinate media relations for the ReEngerize Texas Summit, a conference geared to combating climate change. She has also assisted with research concerning party polarization in the U.S. Congress with Government Professor Sean Theriault. In Washington, Kacy plans to participate in the Democratic National Committee Internship Program. She looks forward to experiencing the inner-workings of the DNC during an especially exciting and important time in American politics |

Markiya Slone – UT San AntonioMarkiya is currently a senior at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She will graduate from the Honors College in May 2009 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology with a minor in International Studies. Markiya has participated in Honors events such as Holocaust Week in spring 2007 and the Great Conversations Dinner in spring 2008. Markiya is a pre-law student with a heavy interest in International Human Rights law. Last summer she attended the “World Without Genocide” conference in Estes Park, Colorado given by the Institute for Sustainable Peace. After graduating Markiya hopes to earn a Doctorate of Juris Prudence to further pursue her law studies. |

Chris Tarango – UT El Paso Chris is a senior at The University of Texas at El Paso. In 2009 he will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in political science, with a focus on international relations, and a minor in film. A true believer in the power of diplomacy at the international state level, Chris has earned several top honors as Head Ambassador of the UTEP Model Organization of American States team. In April he was elected Secretary General at the National Washington Model OAS by the General Assembly. Chris has ambitious career aims, including representing the United States around the world as a top-level diplomat. This term he will intern with Texas Congressman Silvestre Reyes, Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee |

Ana Tavares – UT Dallas As a senior at the University of Texas at Dallas, Ana is pursuing a double major in history and literary studies. During her time at UTD Ana has been involved with many organizations such as Student Government, Kappa Alpha Theta, Orientation Team Mentors, the Homecoming planning committee and a number of campus wide committees. Within these groups she acted as the Student Government Vice President, the president of her sorority, and she was crowned UTD's Homecoming Queen and Miss Greek for 2007. With an ongoing passion for education Ana has gained experience in education advocacy during her time as student body vice president as well as her time in the Talent, Workforce and Education Department at the Dallas Regional Chamber of Commerce. While studying in Washington D.C. Ana will continue to gain experience in higher education while interning at the Association of American Universities. |

Ewaen Woghiren – UT AustinEwaen Woghiren is pursing a B.A. in Government with a minor in English at UT Austin. He has spent the last two years as a Texas Interdisciplinary Plan (TIP) Mentor and Tutor. As a mentor, he helped incoming freshmen transition into university life from high school. Furthermore, he has been involved with the African Students Association, where he served as a chair member. The goal of the organization was to educate students about current events in Africa and to help raise awareness about issues going on in the continent. While in Washington D.C., Ewaen will be interning with the American Bar Association’s Media Relations Sector. After graduating in May 2008, he plans to pursue a degree in law and focus in business |

Charla Wright – UT AustinCharla is a senior at The University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Government with a minor in Art History. Currently, she is a panelist on the University of Texas Disability Council and an active member of Phi Alpha Delta law fraternity as well as a volunteer at The Blanton Art Museum. Charla taught English to immigrants and mentored disadvantaged children for four years. Over the last six years, she has worked with the Texas Commission for the Blind, participating in leadership camps and educational seminars to encourage children with disabilities to pursue advanced education as a foundation to secure independence. She is currently applying to various law schools in preparation for a career in advocacy law. |
